LGBTQ+ youth need access to culturally competent mental health care. Organizations that serve queer youth and clinicians who specialize in gender identity and/or sexual orientation regularly receive requests from youth and families in search of therapy and there are simply not enough clinicians to meet the need.

QYR is a program designed to bring comprehensive training and consultation to mental health professionals. We build clinical learning communities where clinicians can access support and resources to best serve LGBTQ+ clients.

Sara Sullivan, MA, LCMHC (She/Her) is the founder of the Queer Youth Resilience Project and the owner of inclusive minds, llc. Sara is a recipient of state and national awards for her work with LGBTQ+ clients.

The mission of Seacoast Outright is serving, supporting, and advocating for LGBTQ+ youth in the Seacoast area and beyond.

Part One: Agency-Wide Training

Part Three: Clinical Learning Community (CLC)

Part One: Agency-Wide Training

In order to create safer spaces, we need to empower all client-facing staff with the necessary knowledge and tools. This one hour cultural competency training is designed to do just that. Topics include language, an overview of LGBTQ+ identity, and strategies for creating safer spaces.

Part Two: Clinical Training

Part Three: Clinical Learning Community (CLC)

Part One: Agency-Wide Training

This three hour training is designed to provide more in-depth clinical knowledge. Topics include identity development models, best practice guidelines, caregiver supports, and the clinician's role in medical interventions.

This training is delivered as a monthly learning and case consultation in a group of up to ten clinicians. In this setting we are able to take a deeper dive into topics like internalized stigma, minority stress, best practice guidelines, and letters for medical interventions. We also discuss a number of local and national resources for LGBTQ+ youth.

Queer Youth Resilience is a collaboration between Inclusive Minds, LLC (a mental health practice) and Seacoast Outright (a support and advocacy organization for LGBTQ+ youth). QYR provides training and consultation to mental health professionals in order to increase access to culturally competent mental health care for LGBTQ+ youth. 


QYR is designed for mental health professionals who serve LGBTQ+ clients. While our program is geared towards independently licensed clinicians, the content and clinical learning communities can provide value to mental health professionals at all levels of education and experience. 


If you are a mental health professional who is part of an agency or group practice, contact us to talk about bringing QYR to you! If you are a mental health professional in solo or private practice, talk to us about joining a clinical learning community!
